About

The project will discover the heritage of women in the UK sports industry, their journey as an ethnic minority, the challenges they may have experienced and their views on how attitudes have changed, over the years.

Objectives

Our aims through this project are to hear their untold histories.

Captured in a variety of mediums the stories will be showcased through a short film and an exhibition, working in partnership with Brent Libraries and displayed through the ‘Empower to Achieve’ website. These platforms will allow current and future generations to learn, get involved and explore their heritage.

We will involve children and young people throughout the project with design, activities and the exhibition.

They will have the opportunity to develop skills through their involvement, as well as training opportunities in a range of areas including interview skills, event planning, film making, curation, sports coaching and officiating.

Aims for young people

Through this project young people will learn about the importance of history, culture and heritage.

Empower to Achieve will give them the chance to discover their ancestor’s connection to sport and to uncover undocumented personal stories of places, experiences, and memories that define the women.

Our project will focus on the most overarching objective: to empower young people, especially girls and young women, to fulfil their potential in life and to realise there are no barriers to them pursuing a career in any field of work.
